Duobeiyun Website Redesign

 
 

This website redesign was a project that I did with a team of developers during my internship at Beijing Duobei Brothers Ltd. over Summer 2015. Beijing Duobei Brothers Ltd. is one of the largest companies which provide platforms for online education in China. Users range from individuals to large institutions.

OVERVIEW

This website redesign was a project that I did with a team of developers during my internship at Beijing Duobei Brothers Ltd. over Summer 2015. Beijing Duobei Brothers Ltd. is one of the largest companies which provide platforms for online education in China. Users range from individuals to large institutions.

 

RESEARCH

Since Duobeiyun website did not use any analytic tool, I interviewed several customer service representatives to understand the current problems that customers encountered with the website. Many first-time users were confused by different functions because of the wording and layout, and they did not know where to start with. Also, some functions were listed in details, while some functions were hard to find. Besides functions, users complained that the current website was not visually appealing as well.

 

FUNCTION ALLOCATIONS

After collected and analyzed all the feedback from customers, I re-organized the menu bar and functions. For example, I emerged similar functions and moved the most frequently used functions to the top. Furthermore, I incorporated a help button on the menu bar so that users can troubleshoot by themselves and reduce the workload of customer service representatives and the redesign allows users to have multiple ways to accomplish a task.

 
 
 

 

                            PROTOTYPING

  On the Dashboard page, users can briefly view their account information, notifications and monthly statistics.

  Through functions allocation, I emerged all classroom-related functions under the Classroom Management menu. On this page, users can add, delete, edit or search their classrooms and upload resources, like handouts or slides for classrooms. They can also view classrooms by started time and added time. If no resource was uploaded, there will be a highlighted bar (as shown in yellow) that  prompts   users  to upload, which is extremely helpful for inexperienced users.

  Duobeiyun users can also broadcast their class on Wechat. Wechat is one of the largest standalone messaging apps with 650 million active users. By doing so, it allows users to participate in the class on their mobile deivces, which provides flexibility for users. To enable this function, users only need to scan the QR code, which is available in classroom information. If users/students can also appreciate the class by giving tips to the teacher.

FEEDBACK

Since the duration of my internship was only three months, I was not able to test this website among users. However, according to customer service representatives, the amount of phone calls caused by confusions about the website has been significantly decreased.
